Candidate Statement

I believe that we are on the crest of change in San Juan Capistrano. The next few years will take a focus and a commitment to set aside personal agendas. As a businessman, we need to revitalize our downtown to improve our tax base and help our struggling businesses. We must be a business friendly city to attract anchor tenants downtown that encourage our own citizens to want to shop and play while still attracting tourists.

Development pressures are all around us, and we need to continue to work with other agencies to mitigate traffic problems and manage our open space.

My family and I are very involved in our community. We have lived in Los Rios Historic District for 20 years. I served on the Review Committee and Marianne leads the historic district’s native plant gardening efforts. Our daughter attends Marco Forster Middle School, and our son graduated from Capistrano Valley and is now at USC.

I taught agriculture in the Peace Corps, came home and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from UCI. I have been in the property management business for 25 years, specializing in commercial buildings.

Navigating hurdles in the coming years will take team work, perseverance, commitment and leadership. I will wade through the rhetoric and steer a course for good government while maintaining respect for others.

I respectfully ask for your vote on November 2nd.

“John Taylor and his family have a proven record in protecting the history of San Juan. His actions speak louder than words. John put his personal commitment, money and labor into physically preserving two homes in the Los Rios Historic District where they have lived for over 20 years. One home is on the National Historic Registry and the other home is on the City's list of the 10 most historic structures. I support John Taylor because I know he will direct his efforts into making sure the preservation and utilization of our open space receives the same attention, detail and action to complete a community vision that has been dormant for 20 years. I believe the citizens of San Juan will receive this kind of effort from John Taylor on all the important issues facing the City now and in the future.” Brad Gates, Orange County Sheriff-Retired
